Children exploring a play-based learning activity at Rangiora Nursery School

Enrol at Rangiora Nursery School

Information for parents & caregivers

Choosing the right preschool is an important decision. You want somewhere your child will feel safe, known and excited to explore – and somewhere that feels right for your whole whānau.

Rangiora Nursery School is a community-based, not-for-profit preschool for children aged 2 to 6. Since 1938, we have been providing local tamariki with a fun, flexible and nurturing place to learn, play and grow.

The best way to get to know us is to come for a visit. Meet our teachers, explore our indoor and outdoor spaces, and see Nursery School in action.

A place where children can thrive

Our experienced teaching team takes the time to get to know each child, building strong relationships that help them feel secure, confident and ready to learn.

With a teacher-to-child ratio of 1:8, we can provide individual attention and meaningful support throughout the day. Each child also has a dedicated Key Teacher who works closely with them and their whānau.

Our large, well-resourced indoor and outdoor environments give children plenty of room to move, create, investigate and follow their interests. Our mixed-age setting encourages friendships, cooperation and tuakana-teina relationships, with older and younger children learning alongside one another.

Because we are a community not-for-profit centre, the funds we receive are reinvested into our people, facilities, learning resources and experiences for tamariki.

Come for a visit and a play!

Before enrolling, we encourage families to visit the centre with their child. A visit gives you the opportunity to:

  • Meet our teachers

  • Explore our indoor and outdoor play spaces

  • Ask questions about your child’s needs

  • Discuss suitable days and session times

  • Learn more about fees and funding

  • Talk through the settling process

There is no pressure to make an immediate decision. We want you to feel comfortable, informed and confident that Nursery School is the right fit for your child.

Helping your child settle in

Starting at a new preschool is a significant change, whether it is your child’s first experience of early childhood education or they are moving from another centre.

We take a flexible and individual approach to settling. Introductory visits give your child time to explore, become familiar with their teachers and gradually build confidence in the new environment.

Your child’s Key Teacher will work alongside your whānau to understand their routines, interests, personality and support needs. We will keep communicating with you throughout the transition and adjust the process where needed.

What does a typical day look like?

Our programme provides plenty of time for child-led play, supported by thoughtful teaching and a flexible daily rhythm.

Children can choose from indoor and outdoor activities, creative experiences, physical play, group learning and quieter spaces. The day also includes shared morning tea and lunch times, tidy-up time and an end-of-day mat time.

Our routine may change when we have special visitors, celebrations, trips or other learning experiences.

Children bring their own:

  • Morning tea

  • Lunch

  • Optional afternoon tea

  • Named water bottle

Please send food in a clearly named lunchbox. A quiet sleep space is available for children who need to rest during the day.
